When the wave of depolarisation reaches the end of the presynaptic one, Ca2+ channels (voltage-gated) open and Ca2+ move in and cause little vesicles of neurotransmitter (ACh) to fuse with the membrane (exocytosis?). If Ca2+ can’t get in, nothing happens at the synapse.
