Thank you. All of you. For putting up with me being a horrible whiny creature for the past month or so, for being so supportive and lovely, for all your congratulations just now. I love you all. (Admittedly I am kind of in love with the entire universe at this precise moment in time, but do not let that diminish the strength of the love I feel for you guys. I put this news here before I put it on Facebook. Let that speak for itself.)

My offer is from Newnham College, which was my college of choice. I now have to get an A* and two As. Because I’m taking four subjects, they said that these grades must come from English Literature, English Language and either German or Latin - so I have to get at least an A in Language, but I could feasibly get a B in German if I manage an A in Latin and vice versa. (I hope this doesn’t happen, but it’s good to know that I have a little breathing room!) So the plan is to aim for the A* in Lit, which I managed full marks in at AS, and work ridiculously hard at Language, because the exam paper at AS came out at a B and I cannot afford to have that happen again.

I don’t know yet what my insurance choice will be. I had thought it would be Lancaster, but I don’t know if Sheffield (which is bigger and has more theatres and culture generally) would be the better option. The thing is that they want AAA, and Lancaster only want AAB, and I don’t know how brave I can afford to be. So I’ll let you know!

I can’t stop smiling. It’s such a relief - the past two days have been among the worst of my life, and I’m so glad to know I’ve got at least a sporting chance of getting all the way there. My friend Becci also has an offer (for Madgalen College to read Veterinary Medicine, which she seriously doubted she’d get) which makes it twice as amazing, and I think I’m actually going to get some sleep tonight, which will be brilliant too. I love you all. Bye for now.

I got Newnham confused with Murray Edwards in my head just then, and nearly made some scandalous comments. I knew absolutely nothing about Newnham until a moment ago, but it looks lovely.

Don’t worry too much about your grades. If you miss them slightly they’ll probably take you anyway.
